Narrative for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of New England

The staff at New England Rehabilitation Hospital is committed to improving quality and safety for our patients. We welcome the opportunity to share our fall and pressure ulcer prevalence measures with the public in an effort to present a picture of our excellent care, reinforce our culture of safety and encourage continuous improvement.

Falls and Falls with Injury:

Fall prevention is one of the Hospital’s top priorities and we are proud of our comprehensive fall prevention program. We are always trying to balance our patients’ safety needs with their desire for independence, mobility and dignity. All patients and staff are oriented to our fall prevention strategies and patients are reassessed on a regular basis for any needed changes. An interdisciplinary team reviews all falls in a manner that encourages ongoing learning and improvement and results in a more effective falls prevention program.

Pressure Ulcer Prevalence:

New England Rehabilitation Hospital’s low number of hospital acquired pressure ulcers is a result of a comprehensive pressure ulcer prevalence program that includes staff education, competency assessment, implementation of routine evidence based measures to protect skin integrity, timely nutrition intervention, regular reassessment, and consultations by our wound team for our high risk patients. Our program is evidence based and incorporates best practice recommendations from a variety of sources.
